Wall Spring Surprise - News and attractions in Palm Harbor and Dunedin Florida

Full Description:

Surprises are just that…SURPRISES!
A stimulas for a curious mind. Here in Dunedin and Plam Harbor, stimulas surrounds us.

Saturday mornings include time along the Gulf of Mexico for an endurance run to keep the heart pumping strong. The low humidity and cooler temperatures really make morning runs a pleasure. After seven miles I was just warmed up! So, north I headed from the Dunedin Causeway onto the Pinellas Trail – destination Wall Spring Park, Palm Harbor, FL.

The Pinellas Trail runs parallel to A19 with an elevated cross-over five hundred yards north of Curlew Road. Between Curlew Road and the pass-over lies Oasis Park, designated to be Dunedin’s Arboretum. New trees, like soldiers on parade, were waiting for planting.

Seven miles later, beyond theWall Spring Park entrance, I turn into Conservation Park for hydration and refueling. This is one of the ‘best kept secrets’ on the trail. Another ‘secret’ is the primate sanctuary just one mile further. A brief rest and it’s time to return to Dunedin. But first, a trek through Wall Spring Park.

The observation deck surrounding the spring presents a nearly irresistible temptation to take a plunge. Seventy two refreshing degrees! Now that would really be restorative! At your earliest opportunity, join me on an adventure excursion to the Weekie-Wachcie River. There you can let yourself be swept away by the spring fed river,  swim alongside manatees and get up close and personal with Alpacas.

Leaving the spring observation area at Wall Spring Park, the first improvement encountered is the pathway bridge. As the tides rise and fall you can observe the full spectrum of wild life dependant on a vibrant shoreline.

The Wall Spring surprises is but a short distance down the path. Asymmetrical seating created from course wood sculpting have sprung up throughout the island loop. Pictured here is one I’ve named the recliner. It’s worthwhile to ease your body onto these benches and change your position to find what works best for you. Let me know your favorite bench. Let me know what you think of the precarious “Mad Hatter” pergola at the observation tower.

Wall Spring Park, in Palm Harbor Florida makes for an exceptional midway station for a twenty mile run originating in Dunedin. If you are a runner and would like to join others who stay in motion you can meet up with the MyDunedin Runners at any of the following opportunities..

Tuesdays at 6:30 PM it’s a 5 mile run on the Dunedin Causeway. Meet at the parking lot opposite the Sand Dollar Grill.

Thursday at 2 PM is core and interval training at Oasis Park. Meet on the Trail opposite Publix.

Saturday is the big run at 8 am. Meet up in the parking lot at Stirling Links Golf Course on the corner of Palm Blvd and Bayshore Drive. There will be a seven and 20 mile route. Cool water is located along both routes.
