The Dunedin Concert Band Announces 2008 Holiday Band Concert
Full Description:
The Band Will Perform Both Seasonal Songs and Great Band Standards
The Dunedin Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Louis Alan Zagar, will present their annual Holiday and Christmas Concert December 18, 2008 at 7:30 PM in the Dunedin Recreation Center. The concert is free and open to the public with a free-will offering at the concert's end.
Featured this year will be all new music that celebrates not only the spirit of the holidays but also includes some wonderful band standards. Opening their performance will be the band's fresh and exciting curtain raiser, "Strike Up the Band" by George Gershwin. The audience will also enjoy the great jazz tune, "Harlem Nocturne" and a swinging Dixieland version of the old familiar song "Won't You Come Home, Bill Bailey". The Dunedin Concert Band will continue their holiday musical offerings with a wonderful collection of songs of the season. From the well known "White Christmas" by Irving Berlin, to heartwarming arrangements of "O Come, All Ye Faithful", "Joy to the World", "The First Noel", "Deck the Halls" and "We Three Kings", the band will also perform up-tempo selections of "Jingle Bell Rock". "Frosty the Snowman" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," just for the kid in all of us at this time of year! Also not to be missed is the touching Christmas carol by Adolphe Charles Adam, "O, Holy Night." A special community sing-a-long that recognizes those who cannot be with friends and family during the holidays will complete the concert as the band performs a beautiful new arrangement of "I'll Be Home for Christmas." There are several other fun surprises planned, so mark your calendars now. See you all there!
