I currently live in Fairway Estates, a community of single family homes adjacent to the Dunedin Country Club golf course. This community benefits by having many homes sharing boundries with the golf course.
Although I am not a golfer, I have been a social member of the Dunedin Country Club. My comments are not without first hand experience.
The Dunedin Country Club IS a private organization accupying public property. There may be, IMHO, better uses for or commonly owned property than what is observed today. The organization currently has exhibited a blatant \'golfer ONLY\' attitube catering to the current membership and the organization has not been receptive to any suggestions to make it public or community oriented.
Might I suggest a public, not private facility would exhibit the following convienences:
1. Allow a citizen from Atlanta to play golf by simply reserving a tee time.
2. A citizen can have lunch or dinner in the resturant by simply making a reservation.
3. A citizen can have opportunity to pay $5 for a brew at the bar whenever open.
4. Events can be scheduled, open to the public. My favorite would be to reserve early or late hour so citizens can jog or run the cartpaths. I would like to hear your suggestion how the Dunedin Country Club could open their private facilities to attract citizens who would, after a social experience, would more likely consider memebership.
Any of these suggestions allow the citizens of Dunedin the opportunity to enjoy the facilities sitting on our city owned property and establish it is not a private organization, in deed rather than word. (SPONSOR 07/12/09 12:45pm) REPLY
