Your points are right on. I work with seniors and with the retirment crisis we are in they are being squeazed mecilessly by higher insurance premiums and rising property taxes. One solution for them is an FHA insured reverse mortgage. I'm not sure what the solutions are for the rest of us. (SPONSOR 03/09/06 10:10pm) REPLY
I have been coming to Dunedin for the last 5 years as I found it a very quaint and charming community.
Back then you could find a palace for $250,000 or less. Today it's $600,000 plus to find a very nice home to live in.
I bought a home a year ago for $379,000 and have had it recently appraised at $479,000.
My taxes are $5600 a year and my homeowners insurance with St. Johns went from $1500 to $2200.
I am thinking twice about staying in Dunedin and moving back to the north where I still can find a palace for under $300,000, taxes for $3000, and insurance for $600, and just buying a condo to spend the winter.
No young people will be able to afford housing in Dunedin. I am almost 50 and cannot afford it!
